Betting the tennis calendar at Cloudbet: from clay season to the indoor swing
Tennis is the sport I bet on most, mainly because it runs almost all year and because individual players are easier to follow than whole teams. This year I used Cloudbet for nearly all of it, from the start of the clay season in spring to the indoor events in autumn. Here is what stood out, organised by part of the season.
Clay season. Matches are long and upsets are common among players who are not clay specialists. Cloudbet listed main-draw matches at all the big events plus most of the smaller ones. I found the best value in early rounds of smaller tournaments, where the odds seemed to lean heavily on rankings and not enough on surface records.
Grass. The grass swing is short and serve-heavy, so I mostly bet on totals of games and on tie-breaks. Markets for tie-breaks in a match were available for most matches I looked at, which I had not always found elsewhere.
Hard courts in summer. This is where I place the most bets, because there are so many tournaments. The volume meant I needed discipline. I limited myself to players I had watched at least three times that year.
Indoor swing. Indoor conditions favour big servers. My notes from previous years told me which players do well indoors, and I leaned on those.
A few things about the betting itself.
Live betting was where I spent most of my time. Prices updated quickly between points, though the suspensions during break points were frequent. I learned to place live bets during changeovers.
Retirements happen more in tennis than in most sports, and settlement rules decide whether your bet stands. I read Cloudbet's rules on this before the season started, which saved me an argument later.
Limits were comfortable for my stakes on main tour events. On lower-level matches they were smaller, which is reasonable.
Deposits and withdrawals in crypto were quick throughout the year. I withdrew after every big tournament, so I never had a large balance sitting idle.
Before committing a full season to one book, I wanted to know how it treated regular bettors over time. I read an outside review first and compared it with what friends had told me about payouts and limits. Nothing in my season contradicted it.
My overall result was a small profit, mostly from clay and indoor events. Summer hard courts roughly broke even despite taking most of my time. Next year I will bet less in summer and more where my notes are strongest.
